I rarely make it to Church I never have been one that can sit through an Entire day . I do pray and study the scriptures and for the most part even keep the word of wisdom , but I can not bring myself to go to The meetings every Sunday...
Does that make me a bad mormon ????I often wonder if people in my ward shun me for this ..

  • it 'tis what is really in your heart, and how you live your evry day life, is what makes a person, and not how many times one goes to church. I am more of a christian, by my daily deeds, than most whom call themselves one, just because they go to church every week, and even look down on another, because of their cloths.

I am sure you are look down upon.

I never go to church anymore, and I just gave my books to the son of my boss, whom is dating a jack Mormon, and only goes to church, coz, her mum MAKES her, do so. But I am better than most of them, as like jesus, I show foregiveness, they show hate, and controle....

How do you feel in your heart of hearts? You know you could be living with a guy, that you are not wed to, and still be a goiod person, but not a good Mormon. I am a good person, and a very bad Mormon; yet I always sleep alone.
  • Hey PT.

Everyones doing their best to to get along. And your fellow members know that.

There's no one in your congregation that thinks any less of you for not having come to church on a regular basis. They are probably more concerned because they are worried that your not getting as spiritually fed at home as you would at church. But, I can tell you as one who's been in a leadership role in my ward, you are cared for and missed. You are far from alone.

Not to get too scary but the Devil loves to make you think, your not welcome at church, that people will look down on you. This is not the case, period.

Do you have a home teacher or visiting teacher that comes to see you or call. They can be of great help in reassuring you that you are wanted and they can be uplifting in other ways as well. If you haven't seen yours, it may be because that brother or sister may be going through something similar where they think you are going to be cross with them because they haven't been coming regularly. If you haven't seen them recently, give them a call if you have the number, nothing lifts a home or visiting teacher like someone that they have stewardship over calling and inviting them over. If you don't know who they are, call your ward. They can find out for you and will be happy to be of service.

Heavenly Father wants you at church and also at the Temple. He wants you to do those things that will help you into the spiritual place that you need to be to go to the temple. There's a whole lot of good that comes in going to church. To start you don't need to go for the whole block of 3 hours. You could go for sacrament for a few weeks and see how you feel. I bet you will find it quite comfortable and will enjoy being there longer. And if not then talk to your bishop. He's someone who can maybe help figure out why your uncomfortable and maybe you guys can figure something out.

To more directly answer question. At times I do find it hard to go to church, especially of I've been out for a few weeks. Maybe it was a really long Saturday and sacraments at 9am on Sunday. Or the kids kept me up much of the night. Or even on occasion early on after baptism I wasn't able to complete a church assignment and I was worried then person who asked me was going to be mad. I assure you that no one was ever mad, because they know that its sometimes hard, they've been there to.

Just an FYI for you General Conference is coming up this weekend. How great is that? If you have cable you can watch from home and never have to get dressed. Or if you don't have cable you can go to your local Stake Center and watch. It's at (I believe) 9-11am and 1-3pm Pacific time both Saturday and Sunday.

Good luck and God Bless you.
    • Nice words and thoughts, Sile......but a lot of LDS members are very good at looking down upon people. One just had Two of them for bossers, and having worked with them, has given one the strenth to write my letter. If one had an issue with them, they world talk about Jesus, and forgivness, but I found them too be very unforgiving, temple going Mormons.....

What is this, the devil made me do it? There is no such thing as the devil, but there is good and bad. I am a good person, a great friend, if I let you become one; but a bad Mormon, and one feels, this is what helps one be a good person.
      • As in any group of people there are a large range of personalities. If your bosses were buttheads, then they would probably be buttheads regardless of there faith.

When I speak of the devil I speak of the forces that keep good people from the things that would help them through casting doubt on there own character.

Out of curiosity. If your not a member of the church, what are your motives for being in this Tribe?
        • Oh one is still a member, as they are yet to accept my resignation, and what is a good Mormon, doing in a place like tribe, What would your president, say about you being in a place like tribe,

Anyway thats the problem with colts, it can be hard to let go, once they get hold of you.....
          • I'm sorry that you've had such a negative experience with the church.

I don't feel there's anything wrong with being on tribe itself. Its a social networking site more for grown-ups then myspace or something like that. I've found some stimulating conversation and a wealth of knowledge. There are plenty of tribes that I don't agree with here but thats true of anywhere on the net.

            Colts?...what?!
        • Hay sile. Oz is a protestant Island, so what are the mormons doing here? Our head, is Queen Elizabeth, and she lets me do what ever I want.
          • Again I ask...what? What kind of English are you using here, it seems something qkin to word salad. However I will try my best to decipher it. I'm sure you can do what ever you want with or without someones permission. I don't live in "Oz" I live in SoCal.

And you still haven't answered my question. Are you here, in this specific tribe, simply to tear beliefs down because you don't believe them? That doesn't sound very productive and it sounds downright unchristian.

One more question, why do write of yourself in the third person?
            • As an Aussie, we do not speak american english, just as the Americans do not speak australian englis, and neither of us speak the real englis, thay comes from Britan, the Queens english.

One is not a pacifists, as one is not violent!
One is more of a christian, than those that call themselves one, as unlike most christians, one is kind and foregiving.

Also one was born an aristocrat, and we use "one", and not "i"!

Also one dose not need to die, and then get a planet of ones own to have status, as one was born with it.

Just as one dose not see why the mormons sent down it's foot solders to Oz, when we are a protestant Island, and out head is Queen Elizabeth!

Since one spent all of ones youth going to the mormon church, and 20's, one has every riter to have a veiw of that colt, and talk about it. So why dose the church, feel it has the rite to invade the world? it has it's own stste, and should stay within that!

The Bible is a fairy tale so is the book of mormon, so now One goes into your world to inform yous of this truth, as I KNOW the Book of Mormon, is a fairy tale!

As Jesus was just a man whom done good things!

He was not the son of god, nor a god, and when he died ge become dust, and did not go to America, Darwin was, and is rite.
              • Wow, its amazing how completely off my "interpretation" of what you were saying was.

I'm not worried about the planet thing one way or another. It wasn't a "selling point" to me.

You may find it interesting that there are more Mormons outside of the United States then there are in the United States.

The word here in the United States is Cult not Colt. A colt here is a horse.

I appreciate your desire to inform. However you are far from the only one who feels they need to do this. The way you, among others, present your points comes across as antagonistic and mean spirited.
                • Sorry if one comes across as mean spirited, one dose this more so, when writting, than one dose when talking. As well if you were here talking with one face to face, you would iterpret it diffrently! Oh, as in America, it too is spelt Cult down here in Oz.

Now one could state, that Jesus was nothing more than an illegitimate, Jew. Born in the Middle East more the 2000 years agao! So what dose some illegitimate Jew got to do with an aussie living in Oz, of the year 2007. Now to some people this would sound mean!

But the truth is not always nice........
                  • This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
You of course are welcome to your opinion. And thats not the mean spirited part. The mean spirited part is achieved when you come into an LDS (friendly) Tribe and start letting your opinion fly. If this was a Mormon bashing Tribe that wouldn't be an issue.

This would be similar to someone coming into your home and unloading their unfavorable opinions about something that you held near and dear. Nobody invited that person to share there opinion in your home but there they are and they think they have all the right in the world to be there, saying that stuff. They would say "well I'm telling you what I know to be true" even though you know something completely different.

My point is, if you want to share your beliefs with others do it where they might appreciate it. Not in an LDS tribe.
  • FYI: I was raised in the Church . I have members in my ward that I am very close too and I see them on almost a weekly basis for activitys .
The whole Sunday thing bothers me always has I like to go to the enrichment activitys and really would like to go to Fast an Testimony meetings I find them very humbling,I on the other hand never get up I dont speak in front of a Congregation no way not for me ... I can think of a few reasons why I dont like to go to church every Sunday #1 Headaches I often wonder if there's a cleaning chemical or something in the building that bothers me #2 I hate when I get asked to say prayers I dont like to speak for a group I always turn them down when they ask ,I end up feeling like crap after I turn them down #3 I dont want any callings , I know this is the way to serve the lord but I feel by taking care of my two beautiful children I am serving the lord. So with saying that . I wonder If I will ever feel comfortable being a member of the Church.
  • Oh by the way I watched saturday I love the talk about watchin what you say cause it affects how you feel .. Guesss I need to really work on that one :-) Jeeez I can be such a Hypocrite sometimes . Im not sure who gave the talk cause I never paid attention to that just the message .. It came loud and clear I guess thats the point right .
    • Pret. i well remember all those lost days, sitting, in 3 meetings on a sunday, and then maybe a meeting with the Bishop, as well the meeting during the week. fast sundays. I am happy to do one meeting, and then go and enjoy the rest of my weekend.

and How many sneek out to the toilet to hear the football.
  • I can't speak for the people in your ward, but I was in the RS Presidency for almost 6 years, and I know that we worried over our less active sisters, prayed over our less active sisters, but we did not "look down" on them. In my ward, we're constantly reminded of the fact that no one knows really what burden(s) anyone else carries.

I have a hard time getting to my meetings every Sunday. It's never easy. If it weren't for my calling I'd find it very easy to just stay home. Do you have a calling in your ward?

Our Ward Mission Leader is fond of saying that every member needs 4 things: a testimony, a friend, a job, and constant spiritual nourishment. I tend to agree with him. My calling as Primary Chorister keeps me active when it feels as though life is beating me down and the forces of evil are winning everywhere around me.

I hope you find a way to "keep the faith".
    • Cathy,

      Very well put.

I think that we wouldn't appreciate as much the blessings that come from church attendance if it was always easy to do. The doctrine behind the phrase "opposition in all things" is very true, we need to work at what ever is important to us otherwise we'd be living with another true phrase "easy come, easy go", if its worth having its worth fighting for, I think a strengthened testimony is definitely worth fighting for.
